My Story
I'm Josh but you guys probably know me better as Vesp. Since a youngen I've always been heavily into gaming. Starting out with Call of Duty on my first Xbox 360 back in 2010 I knew instantly that gaming was going to be one of my major passions in life, and alongside that love for gaming came an interest in creating content too. Growing up I'd watch all the Call of Duty montages I could find and it inspired me to make my own, at the age of 13 I bought a Dazzle recording device and started uploading and creating my own montages... This sparked my love for making content, so it quickly turned into me purchasing a HD PVR to improve the quality of my videos and I really started taking it seriously, hoping that one day I could live my dream as a YouTuber.
Throughout my whole life I always cared too much what other people thought about me and so when my friends at school found my channel I very quickly took it down, stopping myself from doing something I loved just because of what others might think. Thankfully after leaving school I gave it another go and started streaming World of Warcraft, a game that I had continuously played on and off my entire life, aswell as streaming a bit of Counterstrike, but only to a maximum of a few viewers and although I was quite introverted growing up, streaming seemed to come naturally to me and also helped to bring me out of my shell. I loved to spark conversation with the random people that would turn up in my chat, entertain them and constantly walk them through my thought process as I was playing. I quickly gained around 500 twitch followers in a month, which at the time was a respectable amount, but then started having internet issues which ultimately again stopped me from chasing my dream.
At around the same time, I started college. Growing up I was always the frail, skinny kid (I know, as cliche as it is) and suddenly at 16 I shot up in height. I still dont know if it was due to this massive growth spurt I had but as I grew, I developed a condition called Pectus Carinatum or better known as pigeon chest. Basically, my sternum sticks out further than normal. Luckily mine was never that bad, but in combination with how skinny I was it became very noticeable, sometimes even through clothing - though I was probably playing it up in my own head. This, like most insecurities would, drove me to make a change so I started going to the gym... I quickly consumed all the content I could about how to gain some muscle from lifting so that I could hide my chest bone and as fate would have it, I stumbled across another passion. I very quickly became obsessed with lifting, seeing my physique change and also my strength increase was super addicting. To be honest, I think there's a massive crossover between gaming and lifting with seeing constant progression and results from being consistent. Quickly, my chest started to develop and my Pigeon chest became pretty much unnoticeable, but because I had fallen in love with exercising it stayed as a big part of my daily routine, and at one point I was even considering trying to become a fitness influencer.
Since that day I have been consistent in the gym and built my physique up to something that insecure Josh with his big sternum bone, would be proud of. I'm super passionate about helping gamers that may be insecure about their body break through that mental barrier and start making a change. Trust me, not only will this help you massively in the physical sense of getting stronger and looking better, but in turn it will also improve your mental health dramatically.Due to the nature of gaming - sitting in a dark room, stationary and enjoying junk food all day - you can quickly become unhappy with the way you look which will also take a toll on your mental, not to mention the detriment this can play in to your health... but I want to try and inspire my community to get more active, it doesn't necessarily have to be getting in the gym but by just moving regularly, I promise it will be one of the best decisions you've made.
After staying consistent with training, at the end of 2022, I finally restarted my YouTube dream. After luckily getting access to Dragonflight Beta, the stars seemed to align for me and soon enough I was getting at least 10,000 views on most videos which caused my channel to explode. Within 6 months I managed to achieve 10,000 YouTube subscribers and with streaming on Twitch on top of that, I was able to somehow sustain this as my full time gig up until now, and I only have you all to thank for that. We're now as of writing this message, sat at just over 50,000 subscribers and it's only up from here. But the real reason I'm writing this message is to prove to you guys that if you truly want something, as wild and out of reach as it sounds, you can achieve it through hard work, discipline and most importantly not caring what other people might think. If Josh the Call of Duty player with 1,000 subscribers back in 2012 just stuck at it, even after his school mates found his youtube channel, he'd be alot further down the path than I am now, I'm still very grateful to be where I'm at but if I just did what I wanted to do, I'd probably have had alot more "success". So make a plan, set goals and go out there and chase your dreams.
